The second Urban Knowledge Collective excursion brought together around 50 students and urban practitioners for a three-day excursion through Brussels, exploring what professionalism means in the urban field. Rather than treating professionalism as a fixed standard, the exchange approached it as a concept, as something negotiated across power dynamics and urbanistic contexts – informal initiatives, civil-society practices and institutional actors.
The excursion unfolded through shared experiences. Participants explored the city through a collective cooking performance, translating observations, smells and encounters into a shared meal. A walk through Brussels connected participants with local practitioners and spaces, opening conversations on power, dependency and collaboration. The workshop concluded with a collective zine-making session, where experiences and reflections were translated into a shared, take-home publication. Through the various formats participants discovered notions of how to work in and with the city, focussed on co-creation, situated knowledge and collective reflection.
